Archaeologies of Green
Originally conceived by Studio Anne Holtrop and constructed as Bahrain's contribution to the Milan Expo in 2015, the National Pavilion of Bahrain found its way back to Bahrain in 2018, where it was repurposed into a vibrant cultural hub for the Muharraq community. Drawing from Bahrain's rich tradition of enclosed gardens, the pavilion delves into the intricate interplay between culture and agriculture. Its architectural design evolved from a series of sketches inspired by indigenous archaeological remnants, with fragmented walls shaping the spatial layout. These walls not only provide structural integrity but also guide visitors through framed perspectives, offering tantalizing glimpses into lush orchards teeming with fruit-bearing trees.
